Bishkek, March 10, 2020. / Kabar /. Prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment in Kyrgyzstan went on an indefinite hunger strike, the press service of the State Service for Punishments Execution of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
To date, 347 persons sentenced to life imprisonment are serving sentences in the penitentiary institutions of Kyrgyzstan.
On March 9, 2020, after morning checks in four colonies - No. 1, 16, 19, 25, 200 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment with written statements declaring an unlimited hunger strike.
They demand a review of earlier sentences.
The State Service for Punishments Execution said that court sentences in relation to persons sentenced to life imprisonment are not subject to review.
In this connection, the requirements of convicts to life imprisonment are unfounded, the press service said.
At present, the staff of the administrations of these institutions and the relevant services conduct explanatory work with persons sentenced to life imprisonment with the involvement of medical workers.
