Bishkek, Feb.12, 2020. /Kabar/. Today, Feb. 12 the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek hosted the meeting of journalists, organized by the leadership of the Journalists Public Association, representatives of the Monitoring of Violations Against Journalists and Media project, and Media Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Akmat Alagushev.

The event raised topical issues in the field of violations of journalists' and media rights. Results of the monitoring that was conducted during 9 months and supported by Soros-Foundation Kyrgyzstan, showed the issue of access to information remains acute for journalists.

Also, the number of lawsuits filed by officials against journalists and mass media does not decrease. At the same time, the amount of such lawsuits is increasing every year.

The courts most often satisfy these claims. Even when the court decreases its amount, it still remains impracticable for the media.

The today’s meeting participants discussed measures to be taken by journalists in case of violation of their rights, as well as ways to reduce the number of such violations.

Such meetings have already been held in all regions of the republic.
