Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2018. /Kabar/. A meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Governments will be held in Astana on November 2. The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Muhammedkaliy Abylgaziev. It is planned that in a narrow format the heads of governments will exchange views on topical issues of economic cooperation within the framework of the CIS and will set the date and place of their next meeting.
The draft agenda of the meeting in an expanded format includes 13 items related to cooperation in various fields.
In particular, it is planned to discuss the Agreement on the interaction of the CIS member states in preparing for a nuclear accident or a radiation emergency and mutual assistance in eliminating their consequences.
It is also expected that at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments a number of changes will be made to the Reclamation of the Territories of States Affected by Uranium Mining Industries Interstate Targeted Program.
The main objectives of the Program are to reduce the risks of emergency situations with radioecological consequences in the territories of the Program member states exposed to uranium mining and processing facilities, working out rehabilitation technologies for large areas, as well as ensuring safe living conditions and social rehabilitation of the population in these regions.
The program provides for the rehabilitation of the territories of five radiation-polluted sites in Kyrgyzstan and one in Tajikistan.
These sites represent a danger not only to the health of the local population, but also are sources of the risk of a potential man-made disaster for the Central Asian region, since in the event of an emergency, the zone of radioactive contamination can spread to large areas of neighboring states.
Separately, the heads of government will discuss the Concept of Cooperation of the CIS States on the development of the production of high-tech energy equipment and the Plan of the main measures for its implementation.
