Project to provide communities in suburbs of Osh with drinking water being launched

Bishkek, June 10, 2020. /Kabar/. A project to provide drinking water to 10 communities in Japalak rural district in Osh city is being launched. Today, June 10 President Sooronbay Jeenbekov got acquainted with the implementation of this project, his press service reported.

Director of the State Agency for Water Resources under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev said the project’s implementation will result in full access to clean drinking water of ten settlements or more than 20 thousand residents of Japalak.

The construction project was financed from the national budget. Construction works on the first stage began in June 2019 and will be fully completed by the end of June 2020.

The Kyrgyz President assured that the work in this area is actively carried out throughout the republic.

Provision of the population with clean drinking water is a national project and one of the main priorities of Sooronbay Jeenbekov's presidential activity.

In 2018, KGS 350 million was allocated for this purpose, and last year KGS 500 million was provided from the national budget.

Over the past three years, residents of 107 villages in the country have gained access to clean water. In addition to budget financing, funds from international development partners have been actively attracted.

President Jeenbekov is in Osh Oblast for his two-day working trip. Today, June 10 he honored the memory of those who died during the June 2010 tragic events and laid flowers at the Tears of Mothers memorial complex.

The Kyrgyz President also visited the first machine-building plant in Kyrgyzstan.
