Protesters clash on Ala-Too square in Bishkek

Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2020 / Kabar /. A clash between protesters took place on Ala-Too Square in the center of Bishkek. The protesters began throwing stones at each other. They also throw bottles at each other.

Supporters of former President Almazbek Atambayev and ex-Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov were on the square. Supporters of Sadyr Japarov joined them and held a meeting near the Government House. As a result, the protesters began to displace each other.

At the moment, supporters of Sadyr Japarov have occupied the square.

The protest actions have started in Bishkek on Monday. Following the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, held last Sunday with the participation of 16 parties, supporters of political parties, which failed to win seats, organized protest actions in Bishkek demanding the annulment of the elections and claiming gross violations. Preliminary results showed that four parties crossed the 7 percent threshold to enter the parliament.

Kyrgyzstan's Central Election Commission on Tuesday annulled the results of the elections after clashes between police and protesters.

However, the protest actions still going on in Bishkek.
