Providing clean water to remote towns and regions is priority of state policy, Jeenbekov

Bishkek, Mar.10, 2020. /Kabar/. As part of his two-day working trip to Batken Oblast, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov familiarized himself with the progress of the Construction of Batken city Water Supply and Sewerage Network project.

The project is implemented with the assistance of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the President’s press service said.

Director of the State Agency for Water Resources Kokumbek Tashtanaliyev said all necessary construction works within the project are expected to be completed in August this year.

A new building of Taza Suu (Clean Water) municipal enterprise of Batken city has been constructed within the project implementation.

As of today, Batken city is provided with clean drinking water for 60%. Upon completion of the project, its supply of clean water will increase to 98%.

During the meeting with local residents, Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized that providing clean water to remote towns and regions is a priority of the state policy on regional development and one of his main election promises.

He stressed the supply of clean drinking water is closely linked to the development of regions, as it creates prerequisites for attracting local investments, creating new jobs and reducing internal migration.

The Kyrgyz leader assured that by the end of 2024, the issue of providing the population with clean drinking water will be gradually resolved all over the country.

Note that in recent years 107 villages of the country have been provided with clean water.

A list of 588 villages has been compiled for which sources of financing have been identified, including from international financial institutions. By 2024, the construction of drinking water supply systems must be completed in 715 villages and the existing infrastructure must be renovated.

Every year, financial resources are allocated from the national budget for the implementation of clean water supply projects and active work is being done to attract investment from international development partners.

Today, Mar. 10 President Sooronbay Jeenbekov is in Batken Oblast for two-day working trip.

He is expected to inspect the condition of educational, social and cultural facilities in the oblast.

The President will also meet with residents of the Leilek region.

Note that in February this year Sooronbay Jeenbekov visited to Ysyk-Ata region of Chui Oblast.
