Rally in Bishkek over conflict on Kyrgyz-Tajik border

Bishkek, April 29, 2021. / Kabar /. A rally in support of Batken region is taking place in Bishkek because of conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. About 100 people gathered.

The press service of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate told Kabar Agency, everything is calm in the center of the capital, the police ensure the safety of public order.

The situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajaik border has deteriorated on April 29 after the citizens of Tajikistan began to install CCTV cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash, Batken region. As a result of a joint skirmish, residents of the two countries began to throw stones at each other. Subsequently, the Tajik side began to fire at passing vehicles of citizens of Kyrgyzstan from hunting rifles.

As a result of the incident, 4 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were injured, one of whom received a gunshot wound to the eye. Three were injured while throwing stones.

The situation at the border is assessed as aggravated. The people have not yet dispersed. People are being evacuated from places where the situation is aggravated. Negotiations are underway between the heads of Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan and Sughd Oblast of Tajikistan.
