Rangers to keep track of wild animals through gadgets

Bishkek, Oct. 31, 2018. /Kabar/. Employees of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) in the framework of the UNDP-GEF project entitled “Conservation of Globally Important Biodiversity and Associated Land and Forest Resources of Western Tian Shan Forest Mountain Ecosystems to Support Sustainable Livelihoods” are taking training for rangers of the Kan-Achuu and Alatay natural parks.

This training is aimed at improving joint patroling, law enforcement systems and oversight over Kan-Achuu and Alatay natural parks by joint patrol teams to strengthen the fight against poaching.

As part of the training, employees of the SAEPF teach the rangers of Kan-Achuu and Alatay natural parks how to use gadgets to keep track of the number of wild animals, provide insight into environmental legislation and teach how to properly prepare documents when identifying violations of these norms, as well as talk about the methods and forms of combating illegal hunting (poaching) and safety in identifying and apprehending poachers.

GPS navigators donated to the rangers by UNDP will now help in obtaining reliable data when observing wildlife, and the results will help assess the effectiveness of the measures taken to protect populations.

In addition, during the training, joint patrol teams formed of local rangers will conduct joint raids to combat poaching and illegal use of natural resources.
