In accordance with the laws in force, the prosecutor’s bodies will provide oversight of compliance with the electoral law in the upcoming elections of deputies of local keneshes, head of the Department for Combating Corruption and Supervision of Law Enforcement of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic G. Akimbayev told during a meeting with representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Venice Commission.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, the parties discussed issues of improving the legislation on elections, bills aimed at improving the effectiveness of prevention mechanisms, suppressing violations in the process of preparing and conducting elections, protecting citizens' electoral rights and responsibility for violating the electoral legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
International partners are informed about the powers and role of prosecutorial authorities in oversight of executive authorities and local self-government, their officials in the election process.
In turn, representatives of the OSCE / ODIHR and the Venice Commission exchanged views on draft laws providing for increased responsibility and effectiveness in counteracting vote buying, and preventing the abuse of administrative resources that affect the free expression of voters.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on mutual consultations and to continue work on improving the electoral law.
