Bishkek, Apr. 4, 2019. /Kabar/. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) put forward a number of requirements before the Government to address the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

On Wednesday, April 3, this issue was considered in the Parliament in closed session with the participation of Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev.

In turn, deputy Iskhak Masaliev told the Kabar News Agency that specific requirement were made during the meeting. In particular, the main requirement was the question of speeding up the negotiation process.

“In addition, there was a requirement to change the socio-economic life of the villages located in border areas. This includes allocation of funds, change of the status of villages. Issues of issuing long-term loans were raised. If we do not take steps, many residents will sell their homes and leave. There is such a practice all over the world that those who live in border areas should be given special attention,” he said.

According to Masaliev, another requirement was to bring to justice those who did not work sufficiently with regards to the conflict on March 13.

The deputy also said that the issue of delimitation and demarcation of the borders with Tajikistan will be difficult for the Government. He believes that the one who raises this question will become a “political corpse”, because in any case he will be criticized.

“The same will happen in Tajikistan,” the parliamentarian added.

On March 13, a conflict occurred between residents of the two countries at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Batken oblast.
