Results of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

The main topics of discussion at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which took place in Minsk on July 17, were the elimination of trade barriers by the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in the domestic market, the adoption of a comprehensive plan to combat COVID-19 and other infections, the development of systemic approaches to the introduction of product labeling, the formation of joint space system of remote sensing of the Earth, development of maps of industrialization and development of the agroindustry and other topical issues, the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission reported.

The meeting of the Intergovernmental Council was held in person for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was attended by chairman of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Prime Ministers of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov, Chairman of the Government of Russia Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich, and Prime Minister of Moldova Ion Chicu and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev.

During the meeting, recently appointed Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Nikolay Podguzov spoke about the prospects for the implementation of joint projects within the EAEU.

Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters following the meeting that all 18 items on the agenda, despite heated discussions, were considered. They solve key issues in the development of Eurasian economic integration.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that in the difficult realities of 2020, the EAEU bodies managed to ensure well-coordinated work. Operational and strategic decisions were made in the interests of states and citizens on the movement of goods within the borders of the Union. He noted the high level of mutual understanding in working out issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In total, more than 300 acts have been adopted this year. 37 meetings were held at various levels. 9 barriers have been eliminated,” stressed the chairman of the EEC Board.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, thanks to the decisions made at the Intergovernmental Council, the Union is taking part in the implementation of innovation and investment projects in the space, industrial and agro-industrial spheres.
