Rise again: GDP growth in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Oct. 10, 2018. /Kabar/. The volume of gross domestic product of Kyrgyzstan for the period from January to September of this year amounted to 368 billion 3252.4 million soms.

According to a preliminary assessment of the specialists of the National Statistical Committee, the achieved figure demonstrates its growth by 1.2% compared to the same period last year.

Without regard for Kumtor enterprises, the volume of GDP in the first nine months amounted to 336 billion soms and increased by 2.4%.

According to the Committee’s calculations for the previous 8 months, there was a negative trend in the formation of economic indicators in the country, which was noted in connection with a decrease in the output of heavy industry.

Thus, the volume of Kyrgyzstan's GDP from January to August 2018 exceeded 310.2 billion soms. This figure declined by 0.3% compared with the same period last year and demonstrated a slowdown in economic growth.

Excluding the Kumtor enterprises, the volume of GDP has amounted to about 283 billion soms and increased by 2.1% over eight months.

At a government meeting on September 26, Prime Minister Muhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev said that the observed state of affairs will be fixed, and in the remaining four months to the end of the year, Kyrgyzstan’s GDP will increase through the industrial sector.

The head of the Cabinet explained that for this purpose, negotiations were held with the leadership of Centerra Gold Inc. on the issue and an agreement was reached on increasing production volumes.
