Bishkek, Jan. 22, 2021. /Kabar/. 6 thousand 126 traffic accident were registered in Kyrgyzstan during 12 months of 2020, which is 8% less compared to the previous year, the press service of the Main Department for Road Safety of the Internal Affairs Ministry said.
In 2020, the number of people killed in road accidents made 0.7% and the number of those injured - 10.5%. According to the analysis, 88.3% of all traffic accidents were caused by drivers.
"The causes of accidents were mainly speeding, improper maneuvering on the road, entering the oncoming traffic lane, overtaking on the opposite side of the road, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol," the report said.
Accidents involving children amounted to 1 thousand 245 cases, which is 24.7% less than last year. The number of children injured decreased by 26.2%.
Despite the fact that children were studying at home, 41.9% of children involved in accidents were pedestrians, while the remaining children who were injured in accidents were passengers of vehicles.
