Bishkek, Sept. 27, 2021 . / Kabar / . 5 thousand 151 road accidents were registered in Kyrgyzstan in 8 months and 23 days of 2021, Kabar News Agency has learnt from the press service of the Main Department for Road Safety.
This figure exceeds last year's figures by 27.3% - 4 thousand 44 accidents were recorded during the same period last year.
"Since the beginning of 2021, 528 citizens were killed, 7 thousand 623 people were injured in road accidents. Increase in deaths was 7.7% more in comparison with the same period in 2020 - 490 people were killed, 6 thousand 64 people were injured," the report said.
The Main Department for Road Safety reported that in 95% of cases, the cause of accidents was low driving culture among drivers.
The main causes of accidents include speeding (30.2%), improper maneuvering by drivers (29.8%), driving into the oncoming traffic lane (11.3%) and drunk driving (6.5%), etc.
In addition, 2.6% of accidents were caused by pedestrians who were not sober, passed the road in the wrong place or ran out on the road.
