Seoul, March 5, 2018 / Kabar/. More than 70 journalists from 50 countries of the world gathered in Seoul for the World Journalists Conference to discuss the role of press for denuclearization of Korean peninsula and world peace.
Speaking at the special session Natalia Szewczak, joiurnalist of Bbusiness Insider Polska from Poland told about the Polish point of view on peace in Korean Peninsula and in the whole world. She said that the Polish point of view is that there will be peace in the world if international law is observed.
“If someone violates international law, in the first instance we should use peaceful means to persuade him to comply with the law-these are primarily sanctions. Its really must be done with great consistency,” she said sharing the standpoint of Polish authorities.
Natalia Szewczak also touched upon the role of journalists for world peace. She stressed that the journalist’s work is extremely important, explaining it by the fact that information is power. “The press have the opportunity to defuse tensions before they lead to the conflict,” she said.
The Polish journalist also reminded that enormous responsibility of journalists is the truth. “Journalists must verify every information. They must be sure that all the reports they provide are real and they aren’t fake news,” she said.
Another journalist from Russia Nataila Portiakova, special correspondent of Izvestia Daily also emphasized the responsibility of each journalist in covering events on Korean peninsula. She said that some journalists covering events on Korean peninsula often lack deep knowledge and real understanding of historicalties between Koreas and evolution of conflict between the two. “It’s a job and responsibility of each journalist to read more on the covered issue,” she said.
Hagit Limor, Past President of National Society of Professional Journalists from the USA, in her speech reminded about Code of Ethics. “Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough,” she said.
Mrs.Limor also reminded about four basic tenets of ethical journalism: seek truth and report, minimize harm, act independently, be accountable and transparent.
The World Journalists Conference 2018 has started here in Seoul, South Korea on Monday and will last till March 11. Within the framework of the conference the journalists will get acquainted with social and economic development of the country by visiting several cities.
The conference is organized by the Journalists Association of Korea, which the country’s biggest media body with its over 200 company members and 10 thousand journalists.
