Bishkek, Dec. 26, 2018. /Kabar/. The role of journalists in the fight against extremism and terrorism was discussed in Bishkek. Opening remarks were delivered by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Mirlan Kanimetov at a round table on “Preventing Violent Extremism and the Role of the Media in Kyrgyzstan” in Bishkek.
He said that the role of the media in the prevention of extremism is great. These groups are very actively using means of communication for their own purposes.
“At the moment, many lectures are held at schools and other educational institutions – extremism and terrorism are explained to young people, as it is obvious that members of international terrorist organizations are mostly people from 25 to 29,” Kanimetov said.
He also added that journalism should be considered as the first associate against extremism and terrorism. In this regard, it is recommended to create a training base for media representatives.
“The history and bitter experience of other countries show that victory can be won only through interaction. Therefore, it is important that law enforcement agencies and the media go in one direction,” the Deputy Minister concluded.
