Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2018. /Kabar/. The Russian Government allocated $8 million to the UN World Food Program in the Kyrgyz Republic to improve food safety and nutrition for 100 thousand poor households, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic Andrei Krutko told at the briefing.
He said that Russia is aware of the importance of long-term investments for achieving sustainable results in the field of food safety and nutrition in Kyrgyzstan. “We consider it important to expand partnership with the UN WFP and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to improve the socio-economic situation of the Kyrgyz people,” Russian Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Andrei Krutko said.
Country Director of the UN WFP in Kyrgyzstan Andrea Bagnoli told that the grant funds will be used to help low-income families in 300 rural areas to increase agricultural productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.
“The new grant of Russia is aimed at such priorities of the WFP Country Strategic Plan for 2018-2020 as raising incomes of rural residents, increasing the productivity of small farmers and improving food security and nutrition for vulnerable families. The allocated funds will also be used to implement projects to reduce the risk of natural disasters and improve the resilience of farms to climate change. In particular, the focus will be on the development of irrigation infrastructure, processing of agricultural products, prevention of floods and mudflows, as well as vocational training of poor families,” Bagnoli said.
