Russia donates almost 2 tons of products to Kyrgyzstan for vulnerable families

Bishkek, Oct. 24, 2022. / Kabar /. Another batch of food aid from Russia arrived in Bishkek through the UN World Food Program (WFP).

According to the press service of the organization, a total of about 1 ton 950.7 kilograms of food was delivered to its warehouses in Bishkek and Osh - this is 1 ton 890 kilograms of fortified flour and 60.7 tons of vegetable oil.

This volume of products will be distributed to 12.6 thousand families to improve their food security. They will receive 150 kilograms of fortified wheat flour and 15 liters of vegetable oil in exchange for participating in one of more than 500 community projects aimed at restoring local infrastructure and building people's resilience to climate change-related disaster risks and shocks.

3,495 tons of food was distributed in 2022 (January-September) provided by the Russian Federation to WFP to support vulnerable families throughout the country. This includes humanitarian support provided to internally displaced persons in Batken following border clashes in mid-September, WFP said.

It is noted that the Russian Federation is the largest donor to WFP in the Kyrgyz Republic. Over the past 10 years, the Russian government, through WFP, has provided support to the citizens of Kyrgyzstan at various levels, from relief and recovery to development and social protection. WFP and the Russian Federation will continue their joint efforts to support vulnerable segments of the population in the Kyrgyz Republic.

In addition, the UN World Food Program is the world's largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food aid to pave the way for peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflicts, disasters and the effects of climate change.
