Bishkek, June 9, 2022. /Kabar/. Russia’s Yekaterinburg hosted the Nineth Russia-Kyrgyzstan Interregional Conference. The plenary session was attended by Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev.
The meeting was moderated by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach, the press service of the Kyrgyz Economy Ministry said.
"Russia and the Kyrgyz Republic are strategic partners. Strong contacts between our countries are built not only on economic cooperation, but also on historically established cultural and friendly ties.
Sanctions against Russia have hit the entire global economy, and, of course, they have affected our closest partners. Now together we need to determine benchmarks for further increasing cooperation," Minister Reshetnikov said.
He noted that the Russian economy is ready for this.
“On the instructions of president, the government is implementing a Plan of priority actions. More than 300 support measures for business and citizens have been adopted. Russia is ready to more actively develop relations with the friendly countries, including Kyrgyzstan. We want to work toward Eurasian integration,” the minister of economic development added.
Reshetnikov said that in terms of bilateral relations, the trade turnover is growing at a high rate. Last year's figures were record-breaking for the last eight years - $2.5 billion, i.e. +46.6% by 2020.
“To increase exports of meat, fruits and nuts from Kyrgyzstan to Russia, Agroexpress programme is being launched in test mode. The project is already being successfully implemented with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have shown interest in it.
Investment cooperation is developing. According to the results of 2021, Russia is in the 3rd place after China and Turkey in terms of direct investments,” the official noted.
He also emphasized that new opportunities are opening up for Kyrgyz companies in the Russian market, which can occupy vacant niches in the Russian markets and develop new directions.
The great potential for increasing cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic in the CIS, SCO and EAEU was noted.
"Kyrgyzstan's active position within the Union helped increase its GDP by 12% in 5 years (the republic has been a member of the EAEU since May 2015), of which 1.4 percentage points due to integration processes. Trade turnover with EAEU members increased more than 1.5 times. It almost doubled with Russia. This policy is a priority for Russia as well," Reshetnikov added.
