Bishkek, Feb.17, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Health Minister Kosmosbek Cholponbayev met with representatives of the AIDS Infoshare Public Organization, led by Director Alyona Peryshkina, the press service of the Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported.
At the meeting, the sides signed the agreement on implementation of the Caravan of Health project.
Under the project, Kyrgyzstan will be provided with two road-trains (for the northern and southern regions) to improve prevention and detection of diseases in rural and remote areas, as well as prevention and control of HIV and other infectious diseases.
Kyrgyzstan will receive a grant of US$ 2 million from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) to finance the Caravan of Health project.
Deputy Director of the AIDS Infoshare Irina Kostetskaya said as soon as the EFSD has completed its internal procedures, work will begin on announcing and holding tenders for the purchase of road-trains.
She noted said the delivery of road-trains is expected in late October, early November 2020.
In addition, the sides discussed the work of mobile clinics, which were also provided through the AIDS Infoshare Public Organization.
Since 2014, as part of the Russian Assistance Programme for Countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia in Combating Infectious Diseases, the AIDS Infoshare has transferred mobile clinics by car to Osh, Chui, Issyk-Kul, Dzhalal-Abad and Batken Oblasts.
Representatives of the Organization expressed readiness to support the work of mobile clinics again this year. Besides support of medical and technical staff, maintenance and repair of cars, 4 types of test systems for HIV, hepatitis and other diseases will be provided.
The health minister expressed his gratitude to the Russian Government and AIDS Infoshare Public Organization for providing technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan.
"During the past 2019, specialists of mobile clinics conducted free medical examinations of about 60 thousand residents of remote areas of the republic. The population is very much involved in prevention and testing for infectious diseases on a voluntary basis. I am very pleased that our cooperation continues within the framework of the new Caravan of Health project and I would like to thank for providing two more road trains, also it should be noted that our population is waiting for the arrival of these clinics," Cholponbayev said.
Note that Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov signed on July 25, 2019 the Law “On ratification of the Grant Agreement No. 2 from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) to finance the Caravan of Health (Kyrgyz Republic) project", signed between the sides on Mar. 29, 2019 in Bishkek.
