“The history of the emergence of this ancient Slavic holiday has its roots in ancient times. It came to us from the times of pagan culture and has been preserved in our history after the adoption of Christianity.
The holiday is based on merry farewell to winter, waiting for warm days, spring renewal of nature, and therefore the Maslenitsa crepe symbolizes the warm spring sun. The old tradition prescribes to enjoy life all this week – to let go of grudges, to visit relatives, to arrange festivities and to treat guests to crepes. There is a belief among the people: in order for love and mutual understanding to reign in the family, and peace with the neighbors – it is necessary to have a good rest these days,” the Russian Embassy noted.
