Russian mountaineer dies during ascent to Lenin Peak

Bishkek, July 25 / Kabar /. Climber from Krasnoyarsk Yuri Kurmachev died during the ascent to Lenin Peak (border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan), Russian media reported.

The 68-year-old athlete died on July 23 during the ascent, at an altitude of 6,100 meters. There is no exact information what has happened to him. It is known that his comrades managed to bring his body to the camp, located at an altitude of 5100 meters.

Kurmachev was an experienced athlete. In 1985, he received the title of "Snow Leopard" for climbing all five of the seven thousandths of the USSR. He planning to climb mountains together with two more athletes aged over 60.
