President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov announced today in Astana (Kazakhstan) the priority tasks of the upcoming chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in the CIS at a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in a narrow format.

The heads of state discussed issues of deepening cooperation within the Commonwealth, topical aspects of the regional and international agenda.

In his speech, Sadyr Zhaparov highlighted the successful and productive chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the CIS this year.

Recalling the creation of the CIS more than 30 years ago during a period of serious geopolitical changes, he focused on the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS of December 8, 1991, the Alma-Ata Declaration of December 21, 1991 and the CIS Charter of January 22, 1993, the Moscow Declaration of the CIS " On Observance of the Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity and Inviolability of the Borders of the States Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States” dated April 15, 1994, the goals and principles laid down in them, which are relevant now more than ever before.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the main and unshakable principle of the Commonwealth was laid down in the formulation that the further development and strengthening of relations of friendship, good neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation between the participating states meet the fundamental national interests of the peoples and serve the cause of peace and security.

The head of state emphasized such an important principle as respect for the territorial integrity of each other and the inviolability of existing borders. This is one of the most important agreements, which is the key foundation of today's relations.

He once again confirmed that the Kyrgyz side adheres to the unchanging position on the need to resolve disputed issues exclusively by peaceful means and political and diplomatic methods.

In addition, the President added that from January 1, 2023, Kyrgyzstan will take over the chairmanship of the CIS. The Kyrgyz side during its chairmanship will invariably pay great attention to strengthening good neighborly and trusting relations between the CIS member states, based on respect for each other's interests, with the expansion and deepening of interaction between different levels of integration structures in the CIS space.

At the same time, the head of state added that the priority tasks are climate change issues, environmental issues in direct connection with security and sustainable development issues. In this vein, it is necessary to establish an active dialogue with international institutions in order to implement joint projects and programs in the field of environmental protection and the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, increasing the share of the green economy.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted that it is also important to direct efforts to support and develop partnerships between the CIS countries in such areas as transport, communications, migration policy, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the implementation of international initiatives and interstate programs. Kyrgyzstan will strive to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation of the CIS member states in order to further converge the legislation of the Commonwealth countries in various fields.
