Bishkek, April 30, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov addressed the Kyrgyz people due to the events on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Batken Oblast.
In his address the Kyrgyz president said that despite the efforts to maintain peace and stability, some forces have provoked riots on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. “For two days now we have been making every effort to preserve unity and solidarity between the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, without allowing the conflict to worsen,” he noted.
“Determining the boundary is a matter that requires great foresight and diligence both on the part of the people and on the part of leaders. This is evidenced by the history of the peoples of the world. Such serious issues can be resolved only through peaceful negotiations,” Zhaparov said.
The president expressed confidence that the leaders of Tajikistan, wise representatives of the ancient Tajik people, share the same opinion. “Our peoples are characterized by peacefulness and mutual respect, proven by centuries of history. It is no coincidence that the friendship of the two peoples is reflected in the Manas epic through the love of Manas for Kanykei! In the 21st century, the Kyrgyz and Tajik peoples must set an example of harmonious good-neighborliness,” he said.
Speaking about the water issue, Zhaparov said: “We are not only neighbors, but we are also responsible for our natural resources.”
He added that unfortunately, the armed clash, which disrupted the peaceful life of ordinary people, led to human casualties and economic damage. Both sides suffered heavy losses.
The president expressed deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. “I pay tribute to the heroism of the servicemen who gave their lives defending the borders of the Motherland,” he said.
“They say that a war is easy to start but difficult to stop.
Peace and tranquility are above all. I think the Tajik people, who experienced the civil war, understand this very well. It is also not good that the Muslim peoples went against each other in the month of Ramadan. Therefore, I call on all parties to peace. We have just held bilateral talks with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
We agreed to resolve border problems and all other issues peacefully through negotiations. God willing, we will solve everything soon. Taking this opportunity, I want to thank our youth and patriotic citizens who, having taken the initiative, intended to go to Batken to help people. At the same time, I ask them not to give in to emotions. We will solve everything peacefully!," President Zhaparov said in his address.
