Sadyr Zhaparov congratulates Kyrgyzstanis on Manas Epic Day

Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov congratulated compatriots on the Manas Eepic Day.

Manas Epic is the largest epic in the world. It is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, and is also included in the Guinness Book of Records as the most voluminous epic in the world - it consists of more than 500 thousand lines.

The Kyrgyz president congratulating Kyrgyzstani on the Day of the Manas Epic said that it’s a national treasure.

“Each nation, which is proud of its history, treats its literary and cultural heritage with care and bears the burden of its glorification. It gradually becomes the motto, a spiritual symbol of people’s identity, which the whole world gets to know. Today this role is played by the ancient Manas, which has become a truly pearl of the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people.

Indeed, this anthem of the era of the nomadic civilization of our ancestors and the song that has been carried over the vast expanses of Eurasia for centuries is the most valuable encyclopedic source that reflects the history of the Kyrgyz people, their manners and customs, norms of morality and everyday life, spiritual and social life in general,” Zhaparov said in his congratulation.

He also added that in the era of globalization, the Kyrgyz people need to study the great epic in new conditions, popularize it widely, and do everything so that the unfading ideals and eternal, enduring values ​​contained in it deeply penetrate the consciousness of young people.

“In addition, it is necessary to shoot large art series, cartoons for children based on our great legend, publish poetic and prosaic versions of the Manas Epic, translate them into the most common languages ​​of the planet, widely popularize and propagate them. Just like the great oral creations of mankind "Iliad" and "Odyssey", "Ramayana" and "Mahabharata", our Manas epic should take its rightful place in the research of the largest scientific institutions and on the bookshelves of libraries of world universities.

Kyrgyzstan celebrates the Day of the Manas Epic on Dec. 4. The holiday was established by a government decree in 2015. Its goals is the preservation and popularization of the epic, the development of manas studies in the country.
