Sadyr Zhaparov discusses with head of FAO promising areas of co-op in agriculture

Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2022. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, as part of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York (USA), met with the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN Qu Dongyu.

The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security, the press service of the head of state reported.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted the successful partnership with FAO, as well as the need to strengthen interaction with the Organization, which is implementing a number of important projects in the country.

Considering that today the issues of the agrarian sector and food security are one of the key ones, Sadyr Zhaparov stressed that the Kyrgyz side would like to strengthen cooperation with FAO in these areas.

The head of state also spoke about the promotion of mountain issues by Kyrgyzstan in various UN structures and recalled the announcement in Kyrgyzstan of 2022 - the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience.

At the same time, the Kyrgyz president noted with regret that this meeting is taking place against the backdrop of the recent unprovoked aggression on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, which led to numerous casualties.

In turn, the FAO director general noted that he was sincerely glad of this meeting, emphasizing that since the presidency of Sadyr Zhaparov, stability has been observed in Kyrgyzstan.

According to him, FAO is ready to prioritize bilateral cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, which has great potential for the development of food systems and agriculture.

Qu Dongyu also spoke about various projects where cooperation is possible. He was pleased to support Kyrgyzstan in promoting mountain issues, as well as the Zhashyl ​​Muras campaign launched in the country.

Qu Dongyu expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation between FAO and Kyrgyzstan.
