Bishkek, May 15, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov today, on May 15, kicked the start of the 9th International Marathon of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization "Run the Silk Road" in Issyk-Kul Oblast.
The head of state congratulated the participants in the event dedicated to the memory of the bronze medalist of the XXII Olympic Games Satymkul Dzhumanazarov, wishing them good health and sporting achievements.
“The aim of the marathon is to promote a healthy lifestyle, to familiarize the population with regular physical education and sports. In addition, sports events strengthen cooperation between the SCO member states, which contributes to the development of tourism and international friendly sports ties, and also identifies the strongest marathon runners in the region. On Dec. 1, 2019, in the city of Kunming, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the SCO Kunming Marathon and the SCO Issyk-Kul Marathon," Sadyr Zhaparov noted.
The president stressed that at the end of 2020, the SCO Issyk-Kul Marathon was recognized as licensed, and athletes who completed the relevant marathon standards will receive licenses for the World Championship, Asian and Olympic Games.
He noted that in 2021 the Issyk-Kul Marathon of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was included in the Label Road Races calendar published by World Athletics, which includes 191 marathons in 49 countries on 6 continents of the world. The calendar starts with the women's marathon in Osaka and ends 11 months later in Madrid, Bolzano and São Paulo.
Sadyr Zhaparov wished all athletes participating in today's event - family happiness, success, sporting achievements and wished them to be active members of society.
“May the strongest win in this marathon! The biggest win is your participation. I wish you all good luck!," concluded Zhaparov.
