Bishkek, Oct. 13, 2023. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, within the framework of the CIS Summit in Bishkek, met with visiting President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
A wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, including trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the energy sector, as well as the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the CIS Council.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to Serdar Berdimuhamedov for accepting the invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan on a working visit to participate in the CIS Summit.
The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the expansion and qualitative development of trade and economic relations, considering Turkmenistan as a significant economic partner.
He stated that over the past two years, trade turnover has increased and amounted to about 82 million US dollars. Contacts between representatives of business circles have intensified. As a result, trade and economic interaction is developing dynamically. However, current indicators still fall short of overall economic potential.
Sadyr Zhaparov outlined the interest of the Kyrgyz side in further strengthening and expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan, implementing new promising projects in the field of trade, investment and logistics to unlock this potential. In this context, the role of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Turkmen Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation is outlined.
In turn, the President of Turkmenistan thanked the Kyrgyz side for the warm welcome and invitation to visit Kyrgyzstan to participate in the CIS Summit.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the decisions made and documents signed during the summit will contribute to the expansion and deepening of effective cooperation between the Commonwealth countries.
Stressing that Kyrgyzstan is a fraternal state for Turkmenistan, he expressed his readiness to continue fruitful cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in all areas of mutual interest, including in the trade and economic sphere.
The President of Turkmenistan noted with satisfaction the increasing volume of mutual trade turnover between the countries, outlining the need to maintain this dynamics and find new opportunities for its further growth.
The leaders of the countries agreed to further strengthen and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
