Sadyr Zhaparov holds talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella

Bishkek, Oct. 3, 2024. / Kabar/. As part of an official visit to the Italian Republic, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov held talks with the country's President Sergio Mattarella.

Warmly welcoming Sadyr Zhaparov, Sergio Mattarella thanked the Kyrgyz President for his visit to Rome and expressed confidence that the results of today's talks will give additional impetus to bilateral political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

The Italian President noted the importance of strengthening the system of international relations, focusing on issues of interaction between Kyrgyzstan and Italy within the UN, OSCE and other international structures.

President Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to Sergio Mattarella for the invitation to visit Italy on an official visit and the hospitality extended to the Kyrgyz delegation.

He emphasized that this meeting is the first high-level meeting between Kyrgyzstan and Italy in the last 25 years. Before this, interstate relations were limited to contacts at the level of foreign ministers within the framework of events within the UN and OSCE.

Sadyr Zhaparov expressed confidence that today's meeting and the official visit to Italy in general will open a new page in the history of Kyrgyz-Italian relations. He noted that the potential for developing cooperation between the countries is very large.

The President emphasized that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the development of political dialogue and cooperation with Italy and the European Union as a whole.

Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the signing by Kyrgyzstan of the Agreement with the European Union on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation in June this year in Brussels contributes to further strengthening of interaction with the EU countries, including Italy, in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. During the conversation, Sadyr Zhaparov particularly emphasized that Kyrgyzstan intends to continue to confidently develop as a democratic and legal state.

"Since 2021, reforms have been carried out in almost all key areas of the country's life. I strive to ensure that Kyrgyzstan becomes a country where every citizen and foreigner, and especially a foreign investor, feels completely safe and can calmly conduct their business. As a result of the reform of tax legislation, the country has a liberal tax regime," he noted.

The parties also exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda.

President Sadyr Zhaparov invited Sergio Mattarella to visit Kyrgyzstan at a time convenient for him.
