Bishkek, March 17, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov honored the memory of those killed during the Aksy events of 2002, his press service said.
President Zhaparov laid flowers at the Monument in memory of those who died for the freedom of the people during the Aksy events of 2002 and the April events of 2010 in the central Ala-Too square in Bishkek.
Aksy events - the shooting of a demonstration of the local population of the village of Bospiek in Aksy region of Jalal-Abad Oblast of Kyrgyzstan by police on March 17, 2002, protesting against the transfer of a part of the Kyrgyz territories to China. The immediate reason for the unrest was the arrest of a fellow Aksy citizen by the authorities of the Kyrgyz deputy Azimbek Beknazarov. The police fired on the crowd, killing four people. Another person was killed the next day and yet another man died of injuries he received during the clashes.
