Bishkek, July 28, 2023. / Kabar /. President Sadyr Zhaparov today, as part of a working trip to the Osh Oblast, got acquainted with the activities of the Irkeshtam automobile checkpoint of the South-Western customs of the Kyrgyz Republic in Alai region.
The head of state was informed that a four-lane road with a total length of 3.4 kilometers was being built here, which began in May 2023 after the signing of an agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of China.
The project also includes the construction of a trestle bridge 187 meters long and the installation of a conveyor belt for transporting coal.
Completion of the project will make it possible to supply coal from Kyrgyzstan to China via a conveyor belt and relieve the load at the checkpoint. Accordingly, there will be an opportunity for a significant increase in the flow of goods across the border.
In this regard, Sadyr Zhaparov instructed to completely modernize, expand the territory, build additional lanes and bring the customs infrastructure of the Irkeshtam checkpoint into line by October 1 of this year in order to increase its throughput several times.
This is especially true in the autumn-winter period, when the volume of coal exports from Kyrgyzstan to China increases.
Additional funds will be allocated for these purposes.
The current capacity of the Irkeshtam is 100 trucks and 60 cars. But today, customs operations are carried out through the checkpoint for more than 300 cars in both directions, which causes traffic jams and queues in the border area.
The modernization of the Irkeshtam checkpoint will increase the throughput of the checkpoint to 1,000 vehicles per day, as well as unload the road from trucks transporting coal, since solid fuel will be delivered from the customs warehouse of Kyrgyzstan to China via a conveyor belt.
