Sadyr Zhaparov stressed that the country's leadership is focusing on the development of the state's economy through the construction of new hydropower plants.

“Ensuring energy independence and security of the country is one of our main tasks. Of course, we are making every effort to ensure that these goals do not remain only on paper.

We are currently exploring various areas for the development of renewable energy sources. Among them, special attention is paid to the construction of small hydropower plants,” he said.

Further, the head of state briefly spoke about the planned Kulanak hydro power plant.

“We have a goal to build a 100 MW hydro power plant. Upon completion of construction and commissioning of the hydro power plant, it is expected that it will produce 450 million kWh of electricity per year. Thus, the entire Naryn region is fully provided with electricity.

According to experts, during the construction of the HPP, 800 to 1,000 jobs will be created. After the construction is completed and the facility is put into full operation, about 100 people will receive permanent jobs. The project for the construction of this facility includes a dam with a height of 27 meters, hydrolocks for diverting the riverbed and water, a diversion canal with a length of 6.5 km, a power plant building with units, a water intake for irrigation of agricultural land in the villages of Uchkun, Zhan-Bulak, Emgek-Talaa, Min-Bulak, Zherge-Tal, Naryn region, along the Naryn River,” he said.

The president drew the attention of local residents to the fact that the construction of the hydroelectric power station will bring great benefits in the energy and economic spheres, as well as provide an opportunity for irrigation of agricultural land.

“With the construction of the Kulanak HPP, the supply of irrigation water to 5,081 hectares of agricultural land in Uchkun and Sary-Oi aiyl aimaks will improve. In addition, 2,100 hectares of new land will be developed. God willing, the Kulanak HPP will become the locomotive of hydropower in the Naryn region. In this regard, I instruct all relevant state bodies to pay special attention to the advantages of the Kulanak facility, take effective measures and provide all possible support in the prompt resolution of construction issues,” Sadyr Zhaparov said.

The head of state expressed hope that the Kulanak HPP would become a large industrial enterprise that would serve the entire Kyrgyz people.

The total cost of the project is USD 124 million, of which USD 88 million are credit funds.
