Bishkek, Nov. 1, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met today in Glasgow with President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa.
During the meeting, the prospects for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Asian Development Bank were discussed.
The Kyrgyz president noted that interaction with the Asian Development Bank is a priority of foreign economic policy.
“We highly appreciate the assistance provided by the Asian Development Bank in socio-economic development, macroeconomic stability and the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and support the further expansion of program and project cooperation within the framework of the Asian Development Bank program for 2021-2024,” he said.
The Kyrgyz president emphasized that he signed a five-year program for the development of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026, where special attention is paid to the development of the mountainous regions of the country.
The head of state noted that the republic supports the expansion of cooperation with ADB in various fields. He proposed to intensify cooperation in a bilateral format and within the framework of multilateral mechanisms, including within the framework of the project for the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
As a goal for the next five years, President Sadyr Zhaparov proposed increasing the climate finance portfolio to USD 150 million.
In turn, Masatsugu Asakawa expressed gratitude for the fruitful cooperation and efforts of Kyrgyzstan to reduce emissions that affect climate change.
He announced the organization's readiness to intensify cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and noted that the issue of increasing the climate portfolio will be discussed with the ADB Board of Directors after this meeting.
Touching upon the issue of the construction of the hydroelectric power station, the ADB President added that their specialists will start developing a joint project.
He wished success in holding the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan on Nov. 28.
The head of state thanked the president of the ADB for the wishes and said that in the next five years, Kyrgyzstan will direct all efforts to develop the economy and prevent the negative consequences of climate change.
