Bishkek, Nov. 29, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met today with the heads of international observer missions who monitored the parliamentary elections in the country.
The head of state expressed great gratitude for participation in observing the parliamentary elections from the CIS, CSTO, SCO, TurkPA, the Organization of Turkic States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the OSCE, and also thanked the heads of the central election commissions of Uzbekistan and Georgia. He noted that over 700 international observers witnessed the elections.
Sadyr Zhaparov stressed that these elections carry a special meaning and significance for the future of the country and society, which in October 2020 resolutely spoke out in defense of its legal rights and demanded that Kyrgyzstan return to the democratic path of development.
He recalled that the indignation and protest mood of the society had been caused precisely by the results of the parliamentary elections, which did not reflect the true expression of the will of citizens due to violations of laws before and on election day.
“These elections have become one of the most competitive and equal in terms of conditions for participation. The new parliamentary convocation was elected under a new proportional-majority system. Twenty-one political parties and nearly three hundred candidates in single-mandate constituencies took part in the election race. To ensure the representation of all strata of society in parliament, the legislation introduced quotas for women, ethnic minorities, youth and people with disabilities,” the president noted.
The head of state especially drew attention to the fact that one of the demands of society is the organization of open, fair and competitive elections, the results of which are recognized as legitimate primarily by the citizens and political forces themselves. This is exactly how the presidential elections and local elections and a constitutional referendum were held this year.
“Over the past year, we have tried to fulfill our obligations to our wise people. Important socially significant events have been carried out, designed to return all political processes to the constitutional and legal field, to promote progressive socio-economic development, strengthen national unity and public confidence in the new government. Elections to the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic were held in accordance with generally accepted international standards, including taking into account the Copenhagen commitments of the OSCE participating states. We will do everything so that our citizens and the world community have not a single drop of doubt about the legitimacy of the election results. The authorities are ready to work with all political parties in the Jogorku Kenesh, which were supported by our voters,” the president added.
International observers congratulated President Zhaparov and the people of the country on the successful holding of the parliamentary elections. They noted the high organizational work for their implementation, ensuring the transparency and openness of the electoral process.
President Sadyr Zhaparov once again expressed gratitude to the heads of international observer missions for their activities in monitoring the electoral process in Kyrgyzstan and wished them success in their activities.
