Sadyr Zhaparov meets with IDB President Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser

Bishkek, Sept. 19, 2023. /Kabar/. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, as part of the events of the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York (USA), met with the President of the Islamic Development Bank, Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser.

The press service of the head of state reported that an exchange of views took place on current issues of cooperation, the progress of implementation of joint projects with the IDB in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the further expansion of interaction.

President Zhaparov noted that the Kyrgyz side pays priority attention to cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank and thanked for the support provided in the socio-economic development of the country. In particular, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized the bank’s financing of 26 infrastructure projects. Noting the main economic indicators of the country, he emphasized that in 2022 an increase in the well-being of the population was recorded.

During the conversation, Sadyr Zhaparov paid special attention to the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan, which is today experiencing a period of revival. He noted that in the next 5 years, a whole program of large-scale projects will be implemented to significantly increase capacity and reconstruct the main generating capacities with the construction of new hydro power plants.

The Construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydro power plant project is one of the largest energy projects in Central Asia. The president stated that today Kyrgyzstan uses only 13% of the country's water and energy resources, while being a country rich in water resources. The state, on its own and with the help of investors, will launch from 50 to 100 small hydro power plants in the country in the coming years, of which 16 by the end of the year.

Sadyr Zhaparov also touched upon a project in the transport sector - the construction of the China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan railway, the implementation of which will have a positive impact on the development of the country’s economy and contribute to the expansion of transport services provided to the population.

In turn, the President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, thanking Sadyr Zhaparov for the opportunity to meet together, emphasized the high level of cooperation between the bank and Kyrgyzstan. He expressed his readiness to further expand the areas of interaction with the Kyrgyz side, as well as strengthen bilateral relations.

Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser noted with satisfaction the impressive statistics of the economic indicators of the Kyrgyz Republic, noting that these indicators create conditions for attracting large credit funds to the country.

The head of the IDB emphasized with satisfaction the projects identified by Sadyr Zhaparov as priorities and expressed hope for the successful continuation of project cooperation aimed at further socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan.
