Bishkek, Sept. 29, 2023. /Kabar/. On September 28, as part of a working visit to Berlin, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with the management of a large manufacturing company Knauf.

Knauf is one of the leading manufacturers of building materials and building systems in Europe and beyond. The company is present in more than 90 countries and operates more than 80 rough stone companies and more than 300 factories on all five continents. The company's annual turnover is about EUR 15 billion.

Knauf actively operates in the CIS countries. The company began operating in the Central Asian region in 2001.

President Zhaparov responded with satisfaction to the opportunity presented to discuss issues of cooperation between Knauf and Kyrgyzstan, as well as their intention to open a plant for the production of building materials in the country.

He noted that the construction industry is of strategic importance for the infrastructural development of Kyrgyzstan and the achievement of its economic goals. “In the current realities, when there is a construction boom in Kyrgyzstan, this area is of particular relevance in our country,” he said.

Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that from the moment he took office as head of state, sectoral government bodies were given specific tasks to actively attract foreign investment into the country's economy, ensuring their safety and protection.

Zhaparov emphasized that today the state is creating all the necessary conditions for a balanced combination of financial attractiveness and confidence in the reliability of the investment climate. Kyrgyzstan is interested in large German companies such as Knauf entering the country.

He especially emphasized the advanced equipment and new technologies that Knauf uses in its work, expressing confidence that highly environmentally friendly technologies will allow it to carry out its future activities in Kyrgyzstan with minimal damage to the environment.

In this context, Sadyr Zhaparov indicated that the Kyrgyz side is ready to implement a project to build a plant for the production of building materials, with the possibility of processing gypsum in Osh and Chui regions. The opening of the plant and the deployment of the company’s production in Kyrgyzstan will actively contribute to the creation of jobs and the transfer of advanced technologies to the country.

In addition, the president noted his readiness to support the company’s interest in developing silicon and kaolin deposits and provide the necessary assistance.

In turn, managing partner of Knauf Uwe Knotzer, thanking the head of state for the opportunity to meet, spoke about the company’s interest in building a gypsum processing plant in the north of Kyrgyzstan, as well as in general in localizing the company’s production in the country.

He noted that the construction of the plant in the Chui region will not only improve the well-being of the local population by creating jobs, but will also give an additional impetus to the development of the region as a whole.

Uwe Knotzer emphasized that the company adheres to the principles of sustainable development in order to protect the environment, using expensive equipment.

During the conversation, he noted that the company at the first stage plans to build the first plant in the north of the country, taking into account the availability of gypsum in logistics. In the future, the possibility of building a second plant in the south of Kyrgyzstan will be considered.

Following the meeting, a ceremony was held to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Knauf company.
