Bishkek, Sept. 19, 2023. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, as part of the events of the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York (USA), met with Managing Director General of the Asian Development Bank, Woouchong Um.
An exchange of views took place on the priority areas of project and program cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the ADB, including the new Partnership Strategy for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2023-2027.
President Zhaparov noted that ADB is a reliable partner of Kyrgyzstan, with whose support the country has been implementing important projects in all major areas of development for many years.
The president expressed satisfaction with the dynamically developing cooperation with the ADB in many areas and noted that today the bank is the largest foreign donor in terms of official financial assistance.
At the same time, he invited the bank to finance the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric station and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, two large promising “green” projects in the field of transport infrastructure and energy.
Taking into account ADB’s extensive experience in such projects, as well as the scale of construction, President Sadyr Zhaparov invited the bank to assist in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects.
In turn, ADB Managing Director General Woochong Um said that Kyrgyzstan is an important partner for the bank, and confirmed the organization’s readiness to expand and strengthen cooperation in the implementation of large-scale strategic projects, including in the energy sector.
He focused on the good economic performance of Kyrgyzstan over the past year, noting an increase of 7%, and also noted the importance of moving to large projects of strategic importance and the organization’s readiness to participate in them.
In conclusion, the sides confirmed their mutual readiness to further deepen cooperation.
