Bishkek, Feb. 16, 2024. /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov met today in Bishkek with participants in the sixth Regional Dialogue of Security Council Secretaries/National Security Advisers on Afghanistan.
The event was attended by high-ranking representatives responsible for security issues from Kyrgyzstan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In his speech, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized the relevance of discussing the difficult situation in Afghanistan, noting the wide range of challenges and threats that this country faces. He named terrorism, drug trafficking and a weak economy as the three main problems of Afghanistan.
Speaking about joint actions, the president noted with satisfaction that timely, coordinated and comprehensive steps taken by the countries of the region have significantly reduced the likelihood of outbreaks of armed confrontation in Afghanistan. Through active and close interaction at the bilateral level and in the formats of international organizations such as the CSTO, SCO, CIS, EAEU, UTC, a workable model of cooperation on Afghanistan issues has been formed, the head of state noted.
Regarding the Afghan economy, Sadyr Japarov expressed the opinion that the frozen assets of the National Bank of Afghanistan should be quickly transferred to use for the benefit of the Afghan people.
The president said that the Kyrgyz Republic continues to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, including the supply of food and medicine, especially to those affected by the earthquake in the Afghan province of Herat and those living in geographical isolation and in the highlands of the Greater and Lesser Pamirs. Sadyr Zhaparov also expressed his readiness to develop economic and cultural dialogue with Afghanistan in order to help overcome the humanitarian and economic crisis.
The head of state emphasized the need for further coordination of international efforts to ensure security in the region. He also expressed confidence that only through joint actions and coordinated efforts of countries and international organizations can significant results be achieved in building international security.
The event ended with a call for continued constructive dialogue and joint resolution of current problems in order to ensure stability and security in the region. The participants expressed gratitude to President Sadyr Zhaparov and noted the great contribution of the Kyrgyz Republic to the processes of resolving the Afghan issue.
