Sadyr Zhaparov meets with Secretary General of World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya

Bishkek, Nov. 4, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya within the framework of the First Central Asia - European Union Economic Forum, the press service of the head of state reported.

Sadyr Zhaparov warmly greeted the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization and added that Kyrgyzstan pays special attention to cooperation with the Organization and highly appreciates the personal support of Kunio Mikuriya.

The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in simplifying customs procedures and strengthening customs cooperation. In this regard, in September he signed a law on the accession of Kyrgyzstan to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures.

Zhaparov noted with satisfaction the contribution of the Regional Training Center of the World Customs Organization in improving the professionalism of customs officers. He added that a Regional Dog Training Center will be open in Kyrgyzstan in the near future.

“We all know about the high geographic potential of Kyrgyzstan. In the context of a pandemic, our country has simplified the procedure for cargo transportation as much as possible and ensured the freedom of movement of goods,” he said.

Sadyr Zhaparov expressed confidence that cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the World Customs Organization will contribute to the creation of conditions for the free and safe movement of goods, simplification of customs procedures and control over the Customs Service in accordance with international standards.

In turn, the WCO Secretary General also noted that the Organization highly appreciates cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. According to him, the Regional Training Center of the Organization has been successfully working in Bishkek since 2019 to improve the skills of customs officers.

Kunio Mikuriya stressed that the signing of important documents on the simplification and harmonization of customs procedures will give an additional impetus to the intensification of interaction between Kyrgyzstan and the World Customs Organization.
