Sadyr Zhaparov meets with Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Bishkek, March 16, 2023. /Kabar/. On March 15, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The leaders of the countries discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, paid special attention to strengthening ties in the political, trade, economic and other spheres.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, warmly welcoming Sadyr Zhaparov, expressed his gratitude to the Kyrgyz side for the assistance provided in eliminating the consequences of the earthquakes that occurred in Turkiye in February this year. In particular, for sending group of rescuers who showed high professionalism.

In addition, he thanked for provided humanitarian and financial assistance, a mobile hospital sent by the Kyrgyz side.

The Turkish President noted that he feels support from Sadyr Zhaparov, who was one of the first to call to express words of sympathy, and also personally left a note in the book of condolences in the building of the Turkish Embassy in Bishkek. Such support of the Kyrgyz brothers gives great strength to the Turkish people.

Touching upon the issues of trade and economic cooperation, the Turkish leader noted with satisfaction the dynamics of development in the trade turnover between the two countries. Today, the trade turnover between Turkiye and Kyrgyzstan has a positive trend and has grown by 26 percent. In the future, the goal is to bring this figure up to 2 billion US dollars.

At the same time, the President of Turkiye stressed that he supports the creation of the Turkic Investment Fund and the opening of its regional representative office in Bishkek.

In turn, President Sadyr Zhaparov once again expressed his condolences in connection with the numerous casualties as a result of the earthquakes that occurred in Turkiye.

He noted that the Kyrgyz Republic sincerely mourns together with the fraternal Turkish people and wishes a speedy recovery to the victims.

Sadyr Zhaparov expressed confidence that Turkiye would adequately overcome this test. In the tragic days, the country was not left alone in the face of natural disaster. It was supported by many countries, including Kyrgyzstan, by sending rescue teams, humanitarian supplies, and tents for temporary accommodation of the victims.

President Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the Kyrgyz people are always ready to support fraternal Turkiye.

He also wished successful presidential elections scheduled for May 14 this year.

In addition, Sadyr Zhaparov proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in the near future.

Kyrgyzstan intends to actively work and interact with the Turkish side to increase mutual trade.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and cooperation on the world stage in order to further strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation, as well as promote sustainable development, stability and prosperity of the two countries.
