Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2023. /Kabar/. On September 20, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Secretariat in New York (USA).
Before the meeting, Sadyr Zhaparov left an entry in the UN Book of Honored Visitors with best wishes for the Organization.
Welcoming the Kyrgyz President, Antonio Guterres noted that he has a special connection with Kyrgyzstan, since he has visited the country more than once and not only as the UN Secretary-General.
He is pleased with the arrival of Sadyr Zhaparov to participate in the general debates of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
The Secretary General, emphasizing that Kyrgyzstan is doing good work on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, noted its readiness to continue working together in this direction.
Antonio Guterres expressed gratitude to Sadyr Zhaparov for his initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems, noting the importance of this issue.
He also emphasized that the UN is ready to provide the necessary support to Kyrgyzstan.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the personal attention of the UN Secretary General and expressed sincere gratitude for the assistance to the country.
The head of state noted that strengthening regional and international cooperation is a key element of the vision of the future of Kyrgyzstan.
He emphasized that in the new geopolitical conditions the role and importance of Central Asia is increasing significantly.
Therefore, strengthening cooperation with countries in the region is the highest priority for Kyrgyzstan.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that signing an agreement on the state border with Uzbekistan and negotiating with Tajikistan are important steps in resolving territorial disputes and developing peaceful cooperation.
In addition, the project to build a railway together with Uzbekistan and China is of great importance for the development of infrastructure and transport connections in the region.
The President especially noted that Kyrgyzstan is actively working to implement the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030.
In this context, the head of state said that Kyrgyzstan occupies high positions in international rankings for sustainable development, but admits that the work is not yet completed. The Kyrgyz Republic strives to continue achieving these goals, based on international law, national interests and constructive dialogue.
Sadyr Zhaparov once again highlighted the active work of Kyrgyzstan to strengthen cooperation in the field of climate change, environmental protection and biodiversity.
At the same time, during the conversation, the President shared that Kyrgyzstan supports initiatives to reduce the debt burden of developing countries, and also calls on the international community to replace external debt with “green” initiatives.
In conclusion, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue to support efforts aimed at ensuring peace, stability and security.
