Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2022. / Kabar /. On September 20, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with UN Secretary General António Guterres in the building of the United Nations Secretariat in New York (USA).
Before the start of the meeting, the head of state signed the UN Book of Records with best wishes for the organization.
António Guterres, having warmly welcomed Sadyr Zhaparov, noted that he had an emotional connection with Kyrgyzstan and he was glad for the arrival of the Kyrgyz president to participate in the General Debates of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
He added that the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the first countries he visited as UN Secretary General.
António Guterres emphasized that he supports Sadyr Zhaparov's initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems.
Touching upon the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, the secretary general expressed his condolences to Sadyr Zhaparov in connection with the loss of life.
António Guterres focused on what he was looking forward to when the issue of the borders between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was resolved.
The president thanked for the opportunity to discuss topical issues on the agenda of cooperation within the UN.
Sadyr Zhaparov recalled that the partnership of Kyrgyzstan within the UN this year turned 30 years old.
Over the past period, at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, the General Assembly adopted a solid block of resolutions on the most pressing issues on the international agenda.
Kyrgyzstan, as a responsible member state of the UN, is committed to its international obligations and the Charter of the Organization.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted that, unfortunately, the meeting is taking place against the backdrop of unprovoked aggression on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
He recalled that on Sept. 14, 15 and 16, violating all previously reached agreements, the Tajik side attacked border and civilian facilities along the entire perimeter of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
The head of state stressed that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the personal attention of the UN secretary general and the support of Kyrgyzstan, expressing sincere gratitude for the assistance to the country.
President Sadyr Zhaparov said that at present, Kyrgyzstan is promoting the idea of declaring 2023-2027 the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions” and put forward a draft resolution of the 77th session of the General Assembly on this.
In this connection, he appealed to multilateral financial institutions to invest in the creation of the Mountain Countries Development Fund, pay more attention to the problems of mountain countries and invest more in their solution.
