Sadyr Zhaparov opens small HPP in Jalal-Abad Oblast

Bishkek, July 22, 2024 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov opened a small HPP Kok-Art during his working trip to Jalal-Abad Oblast of the country.

Construction of the Kok-Art HPP, located in Suzak region of Jalal-Abad Oblast, began in August 2023. The installed capacity of the hydro unit is 6.8 MW. The estimated annual power generation will be 25.0 million kilowatt-hours.

Congratulating residents on the opening of the HPP, the Kyrgyz leader emphasized that this hydropower plant will play an important role in the development of the region.

The total investment involved in this project amounted to US$7.8 million. Half of this amount came from the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund and the other half was invested by a private investor.

President Zhaparov noted that the electricity produced will be enough to meet the needs of more than 10 thousand residents of Suzak region.

The head of state assured that today's opening of small HPPs is only the beginning of work on the construction of new hydropower plants.

He also mentioned the construction of HPP Kambar-Ata-1, noting that investors have already been found, and in the near future, with proper and economical use of water resources, the country will start exporting electricity.

At the end of his speech, the president thanked all the participants for their contribution to the implementation of this project and emphasized that the government would do everything possible to build similar hydroelectric power plants.

After the tour of the HPP, Zhaparov spoke with local residents and answered their questions.
