Bishkek, Aug. 24, 2023. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received a delegation of the European Parliament headed by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister, who arrived in the country for a visit.
An exchange of views took place on further cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union in key areas of interaction, including regional cooperation.
The head of state, recalling the special place of the European Union in the foreign policy of Kyrgyzstan, noted that over the years of independence, relations between Kyrgyzstan and the EU have developed on the basis of trust and friendship.
Sadyr Zhaparov stated that over 31 years of cooperation, bilateral cooperation has been strengthened in almost all areas of mutual interest, including the effective interaction of inter-parliamentary relations.
The president expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation with the EU and noted the key role of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which is waiting to be signed. One of the main directions of this cooperation is economic development.
In turn, David McAllister, thanking Sadyr Zhaparov for the warm welcome, expressed satisfaction with the progress of development and the current level of bilateral relations in the political, economic spheres, as well as in resolving regional issues.
In addition, he expressed the readiness of the European Parliament to strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation, providing the necessary support to Kyrgyzstan.
During the conversation, the head of the delegation of the European Parliament confirmed the invitation to the Kyrgyz side to visit Brussels.
David McAlister emphasized the significant role and great contribution of Sadyr Japarov to strengthening cooperation, both between the countries of Central Asia and the EU.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue on topical areas of bilateral cooperation.
