Bishkek, June 9, 2023. / Kabar /. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov received UNESCO DirectorGeneral Audrey Azoulay, who arrived in the country for official visit.
An exchange of views took place on issues of cooperation in the field of preventing the consequences of climate change, the preservation and development of cultural and historical heritage.
The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with UNESCO, in particular, the expansion of international contacts in the fields of education and science.
Sadyr Zhaparov drew attention to the positive changes in the country, noting that Kyrgyzstan has taken a worthy place in the world community in recent years. Intensive work is being carried out to ensure the political and economic stability of the country, its social and cultural development, and the education system is being reformed.
He noted that this work is aimed at improving the quality of education, developing technological literacy and practical skills, training specialists and expanding educational opportunities for all citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Particular attention is paid to the spiritual and moral development of the individual and physical education.
The president noted that in recent years, measures have been taken to develop a creative industry based on the intellectual potential of a person and aimed at developing innovative entrepreneurship.
He expressed hope for UNESCO's support in the development of the national creative industry, primarily in Central Asia, within the framework of regional initiatives on the use of technology and digital innovation.
Sadyr Zhaparov recalled that over the past decades, Kyrgyzstan has been an active supporter of the interests of mountainous countries in the international arena to address issues of sustainable development and the consequences of climate change.
“I believe that the development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO in the implementation of projects to promote biological and geological diversity, scientific research, forecasting will contribute to the conservation of mountain ecosystems and the sustainable development of mountain territories through the rational and careful use of natural resources,” the head of state emphasized.
Discussing the topic of climate change, the president noted with satisfaction the planned visit by the Director General of UNESCO in Kyrgyzstan to the Adygene and Golubin glaciers. Sadyr Zhaparov mentioned them earlier during a meeting in New York, inviting Audrey Azoulay to visit Kyrgyzstan and personally see the reduction in the area of glaciers.
UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, in turn, thanked the head of state for the hospitality, noting that it was a great honor for her to come to Kyrgyzstan for the first time.
She emphasized with great satisfaction the active position of Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with UNESCO in the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of mankind.
In addition, Audrey Azoulay outlined the wide and diverse intangible heritage in Kyrgyzstan, noting the importance of preserving historical and cultural monuments of Kyrgyzstan for future generations.
Taking the opportunity, the director general of UNESCO expressed her gratitude to Sadyr Zhaparov for the opportunity to personally visit the mentioned glaciers during her stay in Kyrgyzstan and drew attention to the expansion of cooperation in climate change issues in mountainous countries.
At the end of the meeting, Audrey Azoulay presented the president with a certificate on the inclusion of the manuscript of the epic "Manas" in the version of Sagymbay Orozbakov's manaschy in the list of intangible heritage.
The parties expressed their readiness to develop cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO, as well as further plans for the implementation of joint programs.
