Bishkek, March 4, 2024. /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov received today a delegation of the World Bank led by Executive Director Dominique Favre, the press service of the head of state reported.
An exchange of views took place on priority areas of partnership and prospects for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank in the coming years, in particular in the field of energy, water resources, transport, etc.
The head of state expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its support in the development of the country’s economy, noting that the financial institution is one of the leading partners with which Kyrgyzstan has been successfully cooperating in all key areas for 30 years.
Sadyr Zhaparov highly appreciated the contribution of the World Bank to the socio-economic development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
He indicated that against the background of global problems associated with climate change, the most important task of the state is the development of green technologies, in particular hydropower. Currently, the construction project of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power station is one of the largest energy projects in Central Asia.
Sadyr Zhaparov expressed confidence that the World Bank will maintain a leading role in promoting this project, which opens up additional opportunities for attracting resources from other international financial institutions. In addition, he noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches special importance to the development of road infrastructure, which is the basis of economic activity and investment attractiveness.
At the same time, the head of state focused on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which is an important project in the transport sector for Kyrgyzstan.
In turn, World Bank Executive Director Dominic Favre noted with satisfaction that cooperation with Kyrgyzstan is at a high level. In recent years, the Kyrgyz Republic has achieved significant development and high results.
He also focused on the fact that Kyrgyzstan creates favorable conditions for investors, opening up many opportunities.
Dominic Favre announced his readiness to provide support in promoting priority areas, in particular, the World Bank is providing support in the energy sector - a project to prepare a feasibility study for the Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
In addition, at the meeting it was noted that the World Bank supports the position of President Sadyr Zhaparov regarding climate change and is ready to provide the necessary assistance, share experience and knowledge.
In conclusion, the parties expressed strong confidence in further close and fruitful cooperation aimed at the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan.
