Bishkek, Nov. 5, 2024 . / Kabar / . Relations between Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, based on mutual respect and trust, are rising to a new level of comprehensive strategic partnership, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized during an extended meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The 6th Meeting of the Supreme Council of Strategic Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey was held under the chairmanship of the leaders of the two countries on Tuesday.

Welcoming the Turkish delegation headed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Zhaparov noted that Türkiye is a brotherly country and a strategic partner for Kyrgyzstan.

"The visit is of serious significance for bilateral fraternal Kyrgyz-Turkish relations. This year marks 33 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Türkiye .

Türkiye is an important partner for Kyrgyzstan in the context of the changing world system. The establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between our countries is a significant step," Sadyr Zhaparov said.

He also noted that Türkiye was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic and provided political support in the first steps of our State's journey towards sovereignty.

The Kyrgyz leader elaborated on a number of events, held prior to the 6th meeting of the High Council of Strategic Cooperation.

"One of the most significant is the official visit of Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov to Türkiye in February this year, within the framework of which the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held, the work of which covers cooperation in such areas as economy, investment, energy, industry, agriculture, transportation, tourism, health care, culture, education and other areas.

Earlier you and I agreed on the need to increase the volume of mutual trade. To achieve this goal, I draw your attention to the importance of simplifying trade procedures between the countries, especially with regard to the provision of preferences for Kyrgyzstan," the president of Kyrgyzstan noted.

Zhaparov also stressed that Türkiye's general system of preferences was studied, and it was found that there are no preferences for some of Kyrgyzstan's key exports. In this regard, he asked to consider the possibility of introducing reduced customs tariffs for goods oriented to exports from Kyrgyzstan.

"Dear President, Kyrgyzstan is a country rich in water and energy resources in Central Asia. Our total hydropower potential of Kyrgyzstan is 142.5 billion kW⋅h, but the degree of development of the country's water and energy resources is only 13%.

I would like to propose to consider the possibility of participation of Turkish companies in projects for the construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants. This will bring not only material but also ecological dividends to our entire region," Sadyr Zhaparov proposed.

Meanwhile, he draw the Turkish president's attention to an urgent need to exploit transportation and logistics hubs and the potential of communication systems.

"Given the current situation in the world, the role and importance of new transportation routes are becoming more and more relevant. In this regard, we are embarking on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad.

Successful implementation of this project will bring together about 4 billion people and expand the geography of cargo transportation from Asia to Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, Iran, as well as to Arab countries and North Africa. In this context, the increase in the number of air flights is pleasing. As is known, last year a flight was opened on the direction Ankara-Bishkek-Ankara," the Kyrgyz leader said.

As for field of medicine, Zhaparov informed that Kyrgyzpharmacy state enterprise has been established, the main task of which is to provide the population with quality medicines.

"We know that Turkey is a world leader in the production of high-quality medicines and medical devices. In this regard, I propose to build a Turkish pharmaceutical plant in Kyrgyzstan, which will meet the needs of both Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries and Russia.

Dear President, cultural and humanitarian relations between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey are developing in all directions.

In confirmation of this, I am proud to note that last year the Turkish cities of Ankara and Antalya held high-level Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan, dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of independence of the Kyrgyz Republic, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and the 95th anniversary of the great Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov," Sadyr Zhaparov noted.

Concluding his speech, the president said that such events strengthen friendly and fraternal relations between the two peoples and preserve spiritual closeness.

He also proposed to hold the Days of Culture of the Republic of Türkiye in Kyrgyzstan as well.
