Bishkek, May 16, 2022 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov spoke at the anniversary meeting of the leaders of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states, held in Moscow.
The Kyrgyz president’s press service reported that the head of state congratulated the participants on the recent victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The president also congratulated those present on the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
"The international events taking place in recent years confirm the correctness of the above strategic decisions in order to ensure common and collective security from Brest to Vladivostok," Sadyr Zhaparov said.
The head of state noted with satisfaction that over the period of its existence, the CSTO has been fulfilling the responsible mission entrusted to it, developing institutionally, and strengthening its potential.
He also stressed that the current international environment does not inspire optimism both in terms of global security and the world economy.
“Security threats and military-political tensions have crept close to all the borders of the CSTO zone of responsibility. There are attempts of third-party interference in the internal affairs of the CSTO member states. Thus, at the beginning of the year, we had to stop an unexpected security crisis in one of the member states. We responded promptly and effectively,” Sadyr Zhaparov said.
The president noted that the situation on the southern borders of the CSTO remains very alarming due to the unimpeded operation of radical religious-terrorist structures in some Afghan provinces, whose external sponsors have far-reaching plans for Central Asia.
“I believe that the Afghan problem should remain in the center of our constant attention and analysis. In this direction, it is necessary to implement the entire range of political-diplomatic and military-technical security measures. At the same time, it is important to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, among whom there are our relatives,” the head of state said.
In addition, the president expressed concern over the sanctions confrontation.
“The Kyrgyz economy has not yet recovered from the coronavirus pandemic, and the sanctions situation is already threatening food and energy security, macroeconomic stability and social stability,” said Sadyr Zhaparov.
The head of state stressed that in these conditions there is a need to discuss and develop common approaches to mitigate the consequences of the sanctions and prevent the deterioration of the socio-economic situation during the upcoming meetings of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and the first Eurasian Economic Forum in Bishkek.
