During the incident at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, and as a result of the use of artillery by the Tajik side, unexploded ordnance was found on the territory of a number of settlements in Batken Oblast, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Since May 2, 2021, the Ministry of Defense has created a special working group for the neutralization and destruction of these substances, in which the sappers of the engineering department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic were involved.
The personnel of the engineering department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic conduct constant explanatory work with the local population about the dangers of explosives and unexploded ordnance and ask, if they are found, without touching them, to immediately notify the specialists of the working group on mine clearance.
Tajik sides used mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters during the clashes at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border on April 28-30.
Over 100 buildings were burnt or damaged, 36 people were killed, 189 injured in Kyrgyzstan as a result of the clashes.
The situation on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan near the Golovnoy water intake facility escalated on April 28, after clashes had sparked between residents of the two countries’ border areas. On April 29, clashes between Kyrgyz and Tajik servicemen broke out. Tajik sides used mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters. A ceasefire was established between the countries on May 1.
