Bishkek, May 3, 2021. / Kabar /. Schools and kindergartens damaged during the armed clash in Batken Oblast will be restored by the new school year, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Nadira Dzhusupbekova told at a briefing.
She said that windows of the schools in the villages of Aksai and Ortoboz were broken during shelling.
“But in the village of Ortoboz, the school was already in a state of disrepair, so it suffered significantly. Also, windows were broken in schools in the villages of Kyzyl-Bel and a kindergarten in the village of Kok-Tash. In the village of Maksat, a kindergarten and a school were completely burned down. The school had 200 students, it was commissioned in 2015. We hope that this school can be restored with a major overhaul. We plan to renovate both institutions before the new academic year,” she said.
In total 107 residential buildings, 2 schools, 1 medical station, 1 kindergarten, 1 police building, 10 gas stations, shops were damaged as a result of clashes on border.
The conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border has started on April 28, when a verbal conflict between the local residents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan gradually escalated into an armed clash between the military personnel of the countries. The reason for the conflict was the installation of a video surveillance camera by the Tajik side on power transmission poles near the Golovnaya water intake, which is located in Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.
On May 1, the sides agreed to cease fire and withdraw forces to their permanent deployment locations.
